The rich and vibrant festivals of India are testimony to our diverse tradition and culture.  Festivals are celebrated irrespective of religion or caste in the country, bringing people closer and creating a strong bond of humanity.  For students it is a great way to understand the rich heritage of India and learn about the importance of various festivals.

In an initiative to acquaint the students with “Chhath Puja” a virtual activity was organized in Class XII on 20th November, 2020.

A student of Class XII, Deepshika Roy was provided an opportunity to deliver a speech on the topic “Chhath Puja”.

The speaker abreast the students saying that Chhath Puja is a festival that is celebrated in the states of Bihar and U.P.  Bhojpuri and Maithli speaking people dominate this sacred festival.

She further apprised the students saying that in this festival setting sun is worshipped.  In this festival, devotees fast for one and a half day without a drop of water.  She concluded her speech by asserting that Chhath Puja symbolizes the importance of sun and how it helps to sustain life on earth.  People across the nation offer prayers to the sun and seek blessings of the Goddess for health, prosperity and peace.
