Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is a sikh festival that commemorates the birthday of Guru Gobind Singhji, the tenth Guru of the Sikhs.  It is a religious celebration in which prayers for prosperity are offered.

On the auspicious occasion of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, Ramakrishna Senior Secondary School virtually organized several activities.

Celebrations commenced with a small dance performance by the students of class 2nd. It was  followed by Shabad and bhajans. ‘Ek Onkar’ prayer was also enchanted by one of the tiny tots.

A virtual activity was held in Class XI to commemorate the birthday of Guru Gobind Singhji on 20 January, 2021.   Tisha, student of Class XI was provided an opportunity to deliver a speech on Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti.  The speaker enlightened the students by saying that Guru Gobind Singhji was a spiritual master, warrior, philosopher and poet.  Due to his huge contribution to Sikhism, he is considered as the eternal guru by many of his followers.  He was the last of the living Sikh Guru and before he left his earthly life, he passed the Guruship of the Sikhs to the Guru Granth Sahib, the sacred book of the Sikhs.

The speaker concluded her speech by highlighting the ways in which this occasion is celebrated.

Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is celebrated with grand fervor comprising bursting of crackers, lighting lamps and also visiting sacred gurudwaras.  Many families honour the day at home by holding kirtan celebrating with devotional Shabads.  Many families do seva, charitable behavior which is an important part of the sikh religion.
