WORLD HABITAT DAY

Dear Parents

Greetings

WE HAVE THE POWER AND RESPONSIBILITY TO SHAPE THE FUTURE OF OUR COMMUNITIES SO THAT EVERYONE HAS THE ABILITY TO OBTAIN ADEQUATE SHELTER

The United Nations designated the first Monday of October of every year as World Habitat Day to reflect on the state of our towns and cities, and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter. The Day is also intended to remind the world that we all have the power and the responsibility to shape the future of our cities and towns.

Having an adequate home is, now more than ever, a matter of life and death. As COVID-19 continues to spread, people have been told to stay at home, but this simple measure is impossible for people who do not have adequate housing. This has reminded us that home is much more than just a roof. To make us feel safe and enable us to continue living, working and learning, a home needs to be secure, to allow us to access basic services and infrastructure for hygiene measures and to have enough room for physical distancing. Structural inequalities have been highlighted by the COVID-19 pandemic, showing how people from minorities, indigenous peoples and migrants are disproportionately affected by housing precarity, overcrowding and homelessness.

The theme of WORLD HABITAT DAY 2020 is: HOUSING FOR ALL- A BETTER URBAN FUTURE. Working on the theme and to make our students aware of those lacking such necessity, RKS has assigned certain activities to evoke pathos among the students for the needy and poor and to ensure them that they shouldn’t feel ignored by society.

RKS has earmarked the following areas in which students of different class-clusters have been invited to contribute:

TOPIC: WORLD HABITAT DAY

Class    I – IV             :Make a card for any poor person/family whom you know and give him/her/them the card along with any small gift to show that you care for them. Click a picture of giving them the card and gift and upload the same.

Class  V – VIII          :Prepare a poster on HOUSING FOR ALL-A BETTER URBAN FUTURE and also write a slogan on the same.

Class  IX – XII          :On an A4 sized sheet, write a paragraph on the state of slum dwellers of India and what measures should the government/NGOs/individuals take to improve their condition and provide adequate shelter to them. Word limit: 100-120 words.

Below is the link where the different activities are to be uploaded.

Last date of submission: October 15, 2020.
