Ramakrishna Senior Secondary School organized virtual activity on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti  on 14th January, 2022RKS organized various virtual activities to commemorate the teachings and learnings of this festival.

Keerat Kaur, student of Class X delivered a speech on Makar Sankranti in her virtual class.  She spoke about the beauty of the festivals and the bounties that they offer.  Makar Sankranti is the first major festival of the year to be celebrated in India and usually takes place in January i.e. on 14th. This festival marks the end of winter as well as the beginning of longer days on account of the sun’s northward journey.  This period is also known as “Uttarayan” on this account, it is considered to be very auspicious. She further apprised that the festivities related to Makar Sankranti have many names depending upon the region, it is being celebrated.  On this occasion, people express their gratitude by worshipping the sun God in various forms.

The speaker concluded her speech saying that this harvest festival is both a religious as well as essential observance and is dedicated to Lord Surya,the Sun God,and it marks the sun’s transit into Makar Sankranti.  This major festival is celebrated in the Indian Sub-Continent by Indians, particularly the Hindus around the world.
