A soldier is the man or woman who fights for his/her government and carries the weapons, risking his/her own life in the process.

A virtual activity on the observance of “Vijay Diwas” was conducted in Class XI on 16th December 2020. Ishita Mittal, A student of Class XI was provided an opportunity to deliver a speech on the topic “ Vijay Diwas”.

The speaker acquainted the students saying that Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on 16th December in India, to commemorate Indian military’s victory over Pakistan in Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 for the liberation of Bangladesh from Pakistan 49 years ago.  The end of the war also resulted in the unilateral and unconditional surrender of the Pakistan Army consisting of about 93000 soldiers and subsequent conversion of East Pakistan into Bangladesh.   While it was a big day for Bangladesh, this win was also a proud moment for the Indian Army. 

The speaker further added that on 16th  December every year, citizens, senior officials, students and war veterans lay wreaths and remember the sacrifices of the soldiers.  This day is observed across India by paying tributes to the India Martyrs, who laid down their lives for liberating Bangladesh from Pakistan.

She concluded her speech by creating awareness regarding such events.  It is not just to commemorate the sacrifice but also to inspire young generations from the past examples of national service and sacrifice.
